I'm A Practicing Sex Addict
Major media have covered countless times that actor Michael Douglas is a self confessed "Sex addict." That makes two things I have in common with Michael Douglas.

So let me get this straight, craving sex constantly is considered a malady? Well, that must be going around a lot then because every single man I know seems to suffer from this sickness. And this ain't no 24 hour bug my friends…try more like 40 year old bug. Once this virus comes around it does more then just temporarily affect you, it moves the fuck in. I think it is safe to assume that the entire male populace has been diagnosed with this disorder.

Isn't it kind of like stating the obvious that men are addicted to sex? That we think about it constantly, desire it persistently and make many of our lives decision based on its ends. I thought men's compulsive occupation with sex was pretty much understood. It is not a condition; it is a fact. It is a part of who we are. I don't feel it is necessary that we need to come forth and confess something that is so apparent to our species. A guy letting me know that he is a sex addict is like him also stating "Hi, my name is Jim and I am an adult male human".

All jokes aside kids…having done my due diligence, as I often do, I read a few articles on the topic of sexual addiction and discovered the truth about this behaviour. The real issues involved with these individuals who claim they are "sex addicts" are their avoidance of intimacy, overextension of sex, and inability to be monogamous. These are problems but I feel they can't be defined as an addiction. To compare these syndromes to the effects of alcohol or drug abuse is unwarranted. This is a self control issue and not a situation about dependency.

Men in some degree are all sex addicts. A study was performed and it was quoted that men think about sex once every 6 seconds. Now that may be a bit extreme…I think a fairer assessment is that men think idly about sex on a regular basis. But it still proves a point…we are very sexual creatures. More so then women. You need proof? The dictionary defines nymphomania as excessive sexual desire and behaviour by a female. Isn't it kind of funny that we didn't even take the time to create a similar word for men?

…but that's just my opinion.
