Sunday Shopping?

So any of you loyal Downs followers who live in Toronto, or the states, or basically anywhere but the east coast of Canada will wonder why I am writing about Sunday shopping. I mean I remember the big debate in Toronto what 10 years ago now. And yes most of the world at this point allows Sunday shopping, but not here, not here my friends.

Right now in Nova Scotia, the government is trying to push to bring in Sunday shopping, and it isn't going well. I remember when this happened in Toronto, all the bullshit about it not being right and all that. I mean yes I understand the religious implications of a day of rest, but does anyone really think that this is on the top of Gods list of things to be pissed about?

And out here it's a big fuckin deal man. I went into the 24 hour Sobey's down the street the other day, I asked the woman if they were open Sundays.

"No way, no we are not. And if they change the law so that we have to, I'm going to start a petition, and get my friends and blah blah blah"

I was like, holy shit man, that's a pretty strong response. She was like talking for 10 mins after I left the fuckin store. The thing to me is, why is it ok to be open 24 hours, but not be open on Sunday? I mean how many fuckin people are in that place at 3 o'clock in the morning? I would much rather shop at a store that was open 7 days a week, and closed at say midnight. See the average person is busy as hell during the week, they have 2 days on the weekend to get shit done. If you only have business open on one of those fuckin days, it's gonna be impossible to get all your shit taken care of. And I don't care if the fuckin grocery store is open until 3 am, cause there ain't no way I'm doing my grocery shopping in the middle of the goddamn night.

And the thing is, all these business' are losing a ton of money because of it. Man I was down on the waterfront here in Halifax last Sunday. There were tons of people down there, I mean tons, just walking around LOOKING for things to do, they were just looking to spend money. This is a tourist town man, all these fuckers come in on their boats, and the majority of the stores aren't open? That's just bad business.

Yes there were a few smaller independently owned stores that were open, and good for them I say. Man someone needs to show these people how to do this city shit. And maybe I'm just the fucker to do it. I can just see it now, 10 years from now and I'm mayor. I'll be running this burg. That's it I'm takin the fucker over, these slow movin fuckers are never gonna see a badass motherfucker like me comin. I'll have stripbars on the main drag, free drink Tuesdays, and the stores, the stores will be motherfucking open on SUNDAYS!
