Hey Chris,

First off let me say I know you are a DOWNS follower and I appreciate it. For the rest of you, look for an update on the DOWNS cult soon.

Now to answer your questions from last week Chris (that can be read here for anyone who missed them.) The first thing to note is that Montréalers, and more importantly Quebecers as a whole should not be considered Canadians. Other than the few I know who are very cool, (Hey LL, and D) most French Canadians hate being associated with Canada. And the rest of Canada, we hate them just as much back.

However that being said let's look at what they did. They booed the U.S. national anthem. We all know why, as a protest to the current war going on in Iraq, a bunch of hockey fans in Montréal booed the anthem. How fuckin ridiculous is this? I mean it happened if I remember correctly Chris last year in the playoffs too, where the Buffalo fans booed the Canadian national anthem. And I think both of the incidents are stupid as fuck. I mean half of the players on either team are Canadian, while the other half are American. Or in actuality, throw in some Russians, and other Eastern European guys in there for balance. But I mean what exactly does it accomplish by booing at a national anthem. Did those Montreal fans expect Bush to upon hearing the boos cancel the war in Iraq?

And I mean this is a bigger question I pose to you out there. All the people who demonstrated in the street protesting this war, what the fuck do you expect to happen? Bush isn't going to change his mind, he's said that. Here we have a man who is the president of the United States, and for right or wrong believes he is doing his job, which is to protect his country. And no matter how many ex-hippies or stoners carry signs that isn't going to change. The biggest joke of all is a bunch of Canadians protesting. I mean what the fuck do you have to protest about? We're not even in this war. We should be, because we have the luxury of our lives as westerners and most of that is due to the Americans standing up for that right. If we were suddenly faced with someone attacking us and the Americans didn't help how long do you think it would take for us to be taken over? An hour? Two. So give me a fuckin break.

I don't know where I stand on this whole war. I mean Saddam Hussein is a fuckin lunatic; he's another version of Hitler and needs to be stopped. And sure the war in Iraq may very well be about oil, or wealth or whatever, but at least the Americans and the British are doing SOMETHING. They are out there dying and fighting right or wrong for what they believe in. That's another thing that pisses me off about protesting, remember Vietnam people? Those vets were treated like shit, simply because the public didn't believe the war was worth the U.S. involvement. And because of that, soldiers who fought and died for their countries were forgotten.
