For the past few weeks I've been writing up a storm. I wrote about that idiot last week, and a few weeks before that I wrote about starting my own cult. First off I want to reassure everyone that as always that cult article was my mouthing off and having some fun. Would I like to be the head of a cult? Sure. Do I see that happening in real life, no. I also don't want anyone to mistake my rantings and ramblings to be anything like the very real psychotic messages from people like Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden.

With that out of the way on to this week's insightful, thought provoking, and yes damn good column!

Seriously what kind of world are we living in these days? Is it just me or is the world completely fucked up? I mean I can probably count on my fingers the amount of times as a child my family was huddled in front of the television witnessing some tragic event. Now it seems almost like a weekly occurrence. Fellow columnist Michael DiGiovanni here at BdotO wrote an article months ago, about the need for a super hero, that today's villains were on a level that we hadn't seen. Go read that article here. He is totally right. How many times now in the past two years since Sept. 11th have you sat with loved ones while CNN reported the latest horrific event? The snipers in DC? The space shuttle just last week exploding over Texas? The growing tensions in the Middle East and the imminent war between the US and Iraq?

Is it just me or are these one of the most scariest times in recent memory? I don't know, maybe because I'm married now and will be soon thinking about children but I'm scared shitless. Michael in his article asks for a hero to step forth, I agree with that plea. I feel so out of control of my own destiny. Maybe we are at a time as a society that the average person needs to step up and do something about what is happening. I guess I'm just frustrated with our so called leaders and governments. They don't seem to have any idea on how to protect us. Just a few days ago the US upped their homeland security warning from yellow to orange. They said that something could happen, we don't know where, or how but something could happen. Jesus Christ if that doesn't scare the hell out of you what will? That's hardly protecting me and my family from impending danger. And what about my own Canadian government? Fuck they don't know anything. Terrorists could waltz into this country easily and pull off some sort of catastrophe and they would be left scratching their heads.

It's just that our foes, (here I mean the royal we) the enemies of democracy are more dedicated to hurting us, than our own government is to protecting our way of life. I mean each and everyone of you out there. We all still went to JR's baseball game on Friday, we still had drinks with the girls. We just aren't prepared to deal with the threat that is facing us. We haven't suffered through generations of war, or trained since puberty to die for our religion.

I'm afraid friends, I'm afraid that our dull ignorant President south of the border is going to get us all in trouble. I'm afraid that we aren't prepared to deal with the next level of violence. If terrorists crashed 2 planes into the trade center, what is their encore? I just don't remember a time as an adult, or a child for that matter when things seemed so unsure.

Maybe this will all go away, maybe I'm a big whining baby and full of shit. All I can say is that I hope I am. I hope in months I'll look back on this article and laugh. I hope that I'll get emails saying I'm a pussy and that it was all for nothing.

I sure hope so.
