| Shame
on the Toronto Sun!
I'm not a reporter, technically I'm not even a writer. Sure I want to be one, and I provide somewhat witty insights on a weekly basis for all of your hungry minds, but the fact remains I am not a paid professional in this industry. Now the reason I'm not a professional is because A) we here at BdotO do this out of the sheer enjoyment, no money exchanges hands. And B) I have never written for a "real" publication, you know like the Toronto Sun. Now maybe that's fair, I'm not sure the mainstream can take my certain blend of sarcasm, swear words and truth. However the real reason this doesn't bother me is because I hold the "legitimate" press on a higher level than myself. As I'm sure most of you do, I doubt many of you would prefer my voice over say Lloyd Robinson's from C TV. And that's fine they have a job to do and so do I. However when I see something like I saw this past Thursday I have to question the fairness of it all. The following image was the cover of the Toronto Sun newspaper this past Thursday.
TARGET TORONTO Do you fucking believe that? I mean I can't even put into words how this makes me feel. This is the grossest case of sensationalism I think I have ever seen. I mean this isn't even an article with proof it turns out, it's a poll of what some people think. Give me a fucking break here. I mean is the point here to spread fear and panic? There is no reason at all on the planet that I think this should be the cover of a national newspaper. If there was some real evidence pointing to a coming attack OK, sure that would be bad, and people would shit their pants but there would be a need to. Here all we have is a poll of some idiots who think Toronto will be next. So this paper decides that it would be a good idea to put the above image on nearly every street corner in this city. Good thinking you idiots. I'm not even going to argue about whether or not Toronto is a potential target, that isn't the point. A friend of mine when I showed him this paper and told him about my disgust asked me what I expected? OK the Toronto Sun isn't the Globe and Mail but come on isn't this taking it a bit far? I feel I have a responsibility when I write to not unduly cause harm or pain to anyone. Yes I bitch about assholes and speak of my wish to harm them, but I never do nor do I ask that of any of you. And it's with that responsibility that I say fuck you to the Toronto Sun. I may not get paid for doing what I do, but at least I do it with a bit of integrity. Later. Don't like what I have to say? Do you think I really care? Hit me here. |
