What The Fuck …
Is racism?

Pretty simple question, however after the last couple weeks I really have begun to wonder what the fuckin problem is. I don't mind saying I am extremely upset about the feedback I have received about my article from two weeks ago. First off, there was a reader response posted last week by a Valarie Cumming that I want to address. But the other thing is, the amount of times I have had to defend my article as not a racist one to coworkers or people I know is just bullshit.

The line in question is when I refer to a cab driver of middle eastern decent as Mohamed and I also bitched about the radio station this person was listening to.

First off, to this Valarie person, your first paragraph talks about educating myself before I insult all these nationalities. Listen comedians and entertainment do this sort of thing all the time. Does that make it right? Well no, if something was wrong, but the thing is this isn't racist. It's a generalization and people do it all the time. Does that make that right? Well no, but the thing is this is the problem with political correctness. Because we live in North America we tend to think we are better than everyone else and we are higher class, more evolved, but that's bullshit. The thing is in our rush to be a more tolerant society we have limited people to their basic human rights. If I think a person no matter what their color or background is playing shitting music I'm allowed to have that opinion. As they are about me. Valarie has no problem in her article to make a statement about WWF Smackdown, assuming I like that. Why because I'm white? If someone was referring to a white guy and called him Jason, or Bob, or Mike would I have a problem with that? No, not at all. Those are white sounding names, why not? Face it people, there are differences in races on this planet and you are allowed to not like everything about every race. That's called living. Some races move to a city and create their own little areas, why? Because they prefer to be around they're own kind. Isn't that racist? They don't want to be around other races? Well no it's not, that's just their preference. And that is OK. When it becomes racist is when you won't get in the cab because the driver has a turban on. Did I do that? No. Would I have? No. Did I tell people to not get into cabs like that? No. See I'm less racist than all of you, because I hate everyone, regardless of they're skin color or background.

The other thing that I said in my column that has apparently caused some people to be upset is the line where I said "You're in my country now motherfucker." I was referring to a cabbie telling me he was an engineer in his homeland. Interesting that people are offended by this, I never mentioned his color or his race. Yet I guess people are assuming I'm talking about a visible minority. When in fact this guy could have been from the States for all any of you knew. It so happens he was from somewhere near Hamburg if I remember correctly. Totally white and totally still annoying to me. If I was in Hamburg and was saying that I used to be a writer, but was driving cab, I would expect the same response. Welcome to Hamburg motherfucker, you're a cabbie now. And that would be a fair response.

The final point I would like to make is that this site and especially my column are done as ENTERTAINMENT. And entertainment pokes fun of life for the purpose of enjoyment. If any of you out there are reading my column for anything more than that I'm sorry to say you better look elsewhere. Chris Rock says a lot more "offensive" things than I do about all sorts of races and that's ok because he is a comedian. In the 80's, Eddie Murphy said things he would get hung for now. See the pendulum of political correctness in the 80's was at the far end of the spectrum, anything could be said. Since the 90's the pendulum has swung to the other side and that is the problem I was trying to point out in my article. The point that was so obviously missed by the people who complained, that I felt if I said anything about the music that was annoying to me, I would be considered a racist. The fact that I got responses saying that, just further illustrate my point. Valarie's response totally misses the point of the article, she jumped on the first thing she saw and freaked out about it. That's the problem with these people. Nothing in that article is intended to offend or upset. Just observations. The other funny thing is everyone who had a problem or at least told me they did were white, maybe they are being overly sensitive to a perceived problem they really have no experience about.

So to sum up, fuck you if you don't like my shit. Don't fucking read it, I don't care. I write this shit for the millions and millions of Downs fans out there, who find this column funny and entertaining. I will add actually that I did get some responses to this article that totally understood the point and enjoyed it. To them I say thank you, one day we will get rid of these over protective pussies and have a world where people can speak their mind without the fear of some bleeding heart jumping all over you.
