| What the Fuck? (for Sept. 10th) | |||||||
| Is
up with these record companies controlling our music?
Okay admittedly this is a bit of an old subject, however I still have some shit I have to say. Interviewer: "So what do you think about this Napster issue?" Fist of all, FUCK YOU Lars. I mean can this guy be anymore of a fucking idiot. And I LIKE Metallica. Look how he has alienated me. And I'm a fucking fan of the band. Can you image what people who aren't fans would be saying? So much for selling them a CD in a year or two, eh Lars? Fuck him, I'm giving mp3's of Metallica to everyone I know now. I'm going to burn CDs of the shit and drop them from helicopters. I want to get shirts printed that say, "I download all of my Metallica from Napster just to piss of Lars." Ok, it would have to be a double-sided shirt. But seriously, what was so wrong with Napster? I'll tell you what it was. The fucking record companies were losing out on their cut. They have been getting fat off of the public teet for so long they freaked out when it had begun to dry up. Everyone knows the cost of a CD is a fraction of the retail price. And how many tracks can you fit on a CD these days? I can tell you it's a bit fucking more than 8 that's for sure. Let me tell you a story. A friend of mine had the last cake CD. I had heard a couple of their songs on the radio and been thinking about buying it. I didn't, I copied it and loved it. I then went on to Napster and downloaded the other 2 albums. I was in love. What a great band. Ok, so up to this point the music industry fuckers say I am a horrible crook and I should die. I then however went to a Cake concert, with a friend. Hmmm, 3 CD's versus 2 concert tickets. And then when the new CD came out, I bought it. Since then, I have bought 2 of the CD's I downloaded off of Napster. And I'm planning on going to see them again. They are now one of my favorite bands. And if it wasn't for Napster I wouldn't really like them this much. See my point? Sure maybe not everyone is going to eventually buy the CD's they download. I don't. But isn't it time we as a user decide the best way to get our music? What if I only want one song of the new Marilyn Manson disc? Why do the record companies and executives get to decide our musical fate? So I say to you gentle reader, go out and find alternatives to Napster. They exist with names like Bearshare, LimeWire, and iMesh. Don't let the fat fucks in their 50th floor offices tell you how to get your music. The Internet is here to give freedom to each and everyone of you. Take that freedom and use it for as long as you can. I am. Downs Don't like what I have to say? Do you think I really care?
