| The Flames! They Burn! | |||||||
| I
remember in days past when that special place known as the "World Wide
Web" used to be a happy place. A place where internet users across
the globe would come together as a family, exchanging ideas, sharing recipes
and trade pictures of women with abnormally large breasts. If there was
anyplace a person could go to find that warm feeling of friendship it was
the World Wide Web. Sadly, it seems that times have changed. This once happy
forest of camaraderie and friendship has been slashed and burned leaving
a barren wasteland filled with spite and animosity.
Is it just me or does it seem like that no one on the Internet these days seems to have a kind word about anything? Particularly the public forums known as the message boards. You're all familiar with the message boards. It's a pretty simple concept. First you spend countless hours trying to think of a clever nickname for yourself that essentially encapsulates your persona. Something like "Professor Studmaster" or "Hunky Dude69." Then you post a topic conversation like "Hey what do you think about English muffins?" or "What's the best way to catch a badger?" and then sit back await for some kind of response from the other members of the forum. And then the responses come. Occasionally you may receive a couple of genial responses like "English muffins are my favouritest of all time! I like to put strawberry jam on them." or "You should check out www.catchingbadgers.com." The other 90% percent of the responses I can guarantee will be filled with some of the most unsupportive comments on the face of the earth. "English muffins suck! Just like you a@@hole!" or "Badgers are for losers! Eat a bug." The sad thing is you'll see theses kinds of response all over the Internet. Pretty much every message board you visit will be filled with these chuckle heads that have nothing better to do then find new and creative ways to create fantastically negative responses. Who are these people? Disgruntled postal workers? Angry soccer moms? Sadistic telemarketers? Sad individuals who find such twisted pleasure in 'flaming' anonymous individuals who post the most innocent of topics. Can anyone help these people find the love that once existed in their now blackened hearts? There must be some kind of support group out there that can help show these poor souls the way down that forgotten path to happiness. Moderator: Everyone, I would like you to welcome "FleshEater"
to our group, Flamers Anonymous. It's a big world out there. It would be a pretty naïve point of view to think that everyone should "just get along." We all have different opinions and different views and we all have the right to criticize these views that differ from our own. But there's a big difference between being some quick-fingered dumbass on a message board than say someone who takes actual time and thought to craft a reasonably intelligent response. Now if you'll excuse me I must get back to responding to my email. Oh here's one now. Dear Christian, Your columns smell like my ass. Sincerely, RageMaster
