Someone Stop Enrique Iglesias
I can be yo hero…ba-bay…I can kiss aw-ay tha pain…

Oh Enrique…please stop… really, we have heard enough.

Music, like most art forms, is a very subjective medium. We all have our own tastes, most discriminating and we generally like what we like. Many when posed the question of musical interests annoyingly answer, "I like everything". Well, that is just untrue. This bothers me to no end. There is such a wide breadth of divisions and genres of music styles that it's near impossible to not be alienated by some music categories. Though it is likely your musical appreciations can span many styles, realistically, it's impossible to like ALL music. I think many though can recognize that not all music is for them and can appreciate certain music's place in the overall scheme of the rhythmical universe. Admittedly I don't like country or death metal (devil music as I like to call it) but I can understand the target and purpose at the very least.

Despite knowing this, music still comes along, regardless of genre or style that can unanimously be recognized as nothing short of horrible. Need some examples? Alright…let me clear my throat:

So I'll blame…graaa-vity…for always holdin' out on me…
- Soul Decision

I'm a…slaaaaaaaaaaaaave fo youuu…I won't deny it…I'm not tryin to hide it…
- Britney Spears

You keep me Drownin in yo love…everytime I try to rise above…I'm swept awayyy by loveeee
- Backstreet Boys

Understanding that music is in the ear of the beholder, there are still songs that are just plain bad regardless of where you stand on the musical landscape. We have to be able to recognize this. This music, that is written by hacks using a Microsoft lyric software package that allows you to spit out songs faster then an excel document by quickly inserting different words for "love" and "party". With music arrangements that makes your average commercial jingle sound like Beethoven's 9th. And sung by a mass marketed, manufactured personality who despite appearance still insists "its about the music".

You know what, It's not about the music there Justin Timberlake….real music has some personality of the artist in it. The lyrics are conveying some message or evoking some experience by the artist because, guess what?…they wrote them. There is some actual feeling and emotion involved. Say what you will, but there is some feeling behind Slipknot and Garth Brooks.

The one thought that always goes through my head, is do these people actually like the music they are singing? Most of these bands or so-called artists are made up of 20 year olds. Can we actually believe that this is the music they have always dreamed about making? Singing about their liquid dreams and asking us where their dogs are at. This is the type of music that they are listening to in their homes and with their friends? Can they honestly say they are proud of this music? Or are they just doing a job?

The latter I presume…

Sure they are making a mint from the amount of records they are selling thanks to advertising brainwashing the younger generation. And sure most of these quasi-musicians I have blasted could buy and sell me three thousand times over. But I certainly hope they are only in it for the money. And I hope when they are dancing on their piles of cash they are at least listening to some real music…

…but that's just my opinion.
