______________
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill bans dwarf tossing in Ontario and makes it an offence to engage in dwarf tossing.

Recently in my hometown of Right Here, Canada we were engulfed in controversy and an overload of snow…but that's not important right now. What is this controversy I speak of you ask? Well, I guess seeing the bill attached to the top of this article kinda takes away the need to ask that question. However, that bill is precisely what I wanted to write about this week.

Dwarf tossing. Is it demeaning? Is it a crime against human dignity? Is it even our place to judge that? Can I say anything that isn't in the form of a question? There has been a lot of public outcry against the 'sport' of dwarf tossing. There are a lot of people out there saying that it is cruel and demeaning, in fact there are enough people saying it that many governments and even the U.N. have passed or tried to pass laws banning the activity all together. It's good to see the public making a stand for what they believe in and I don't really agree that tossing a human should be a sport, but is it really our place to stand against someone's free will?

If all of a sudden there was a factory built next to my house and this factory produced terrible and toxic emissions…now I can see protesting that. Or if the bars instead of having dwarf tossing night they had racial slur night where they publicly slandered people of different race on stage then I can understand an outcry. But what if it was a comedian and they decided that they were going to make fun of their own heritage…does that call for raising your arms in disgust? Can we the people tell this person to stop their act because we can't stand them making fun of themselves for money? I don't think so. So why do we feel we have the right to do it to people who decide to make a living off of their body, just because they happen to be shorter?

I'm not condoning dwarf tossing, what I'm talking about is the freedom for individuals to make a choice for themselves. If people can make the choice to use their bodies to make money I say why not? When it comes down to it are you really not just representing yourself? If someone were 7'2" would you tell them they were demeaning other tall people by making a living playing Chewbacca in a movie or for playing basketball? Or how about a stripper for being…or buying a big chest…okay bad example of natural talent, but they're still using their body to make a living and I'm sure their pile of money is bigger than the one that I get for using my brain here at boldopinion.com. There really isn't much more than that to my opinion. I hate to say it but if I had a certain body type and I could make a wad of cash using it, I know I would.
