| Star Wars Episode 2: Attack Of The Clones- A DVD Review | |||||||
| Ok,
once you get past the HORRIBLE title you have to admit, this is one hell
of a movie. There are many Starwars haters out there right now and there
will continue to be, Georgie can't please them all. And he shouldn't have
to, THIS IS A CHILDRENS MOVIE. So were the first three. GO back a watch
them with your adult glasses on, you will have the same complaints you have
with these newer two.
All right, there was my venting, I had to get that off my chest and clear the palette, now on to the review. The first thing about this DVD that everyone should know (you've probably been under a rock if you don't already) is that this is the best possible transfer from medium to medium. As Lucas shot this digitally then transferred to film for the theatrical release (most theatres do not have digital projectors) if you saw this in a normal theatre (i.e. without a digital projector) you didn't see the movie George wanted you to see. It was a darker, more saturated picture once transferred to film. To see it on a DVD, with pure digital quality and to top this off by watching it on a computer monitor (which are so much more powerful than most TV's) it is amazing experience. I noticed the difference as soon as the movie started the picture quality is fantastic. Images so crisp, colours so brilliant. I will firmly place my vote in another all digital picture for Episode III. Lucas didn't try anything new at all on this DVD; it follows the format of the Phantom Menace DVD exactly. Menu screens that interchange between 3 or 4 different locales, webumetaries, outtakes (select title 3), deleted scenes, fake commentary (pre-recorded and inserted over scenes), documentaries, marketing campaigns and a few featurettes. Not to say this isn't a quality job, the content provided is plentiful and, for the most part, quite interesting. A Starwars fan will love this DVD as he or she loves their own children. With up to 6 hours of bonus material this DVD does the job the medium is meant to achieve. Explore every aspect of the film-going experience and more. A hilarious blooper reel (chrikey, is Hayden a klutz), and 2 documentaries are brilliant. The most notable documentary goes into detail and explains how this digital style of filmmaking is so different than any other style. It is such a great look inside the ranch and gives you a relatively good understanding of the type of person George is and that he serves as more a plotter and editor to his own movies than a true director. Nothing wrong with that. I think he has it right.
Keep knockin' em out George!
