Alien Ant Farm "These Days" A Music Video Review
Back when the term rock n' roll used to mean something, those who carried its banner epitomized the notion of anti-establishment. Nowadays where most musicians are concerned with image and playing to the mainstream, many ignore the renegade principles that rock was built on. For those that fear the spirit of the rock n' roll outlaw has completely faded, should take a peek at Alien Ant Farms new music video "These Days" and breath a sigh of relief.

Alien Ant Farm's rebellious new video for "These Days", the first single off their new album, is a brilliant exercise in guerilla filmmaking. Crafted (or is that strategized?) by the constantly innovative music video director Marc Klasfeld, "These Days" shows the band crashing the red carpet at the BET Awards. Crashing indeed…as it has been reported that the video was shot without a permit while the band played on the roof of a building near the red carpet at the awards show in Los Angeles. What is captured on film is nothing short of a surreal shock performance. The award attendees and unsuspecting "These Day "music video cameo artists include Killer Mike, 50 Cent, Nelly, and countless others. Their and the fans, press, and security's reaction to the impromptu performance is simply priceless. They are stunned, they are astonished, they are pissed off, and some are even appreciative. In fact, I am sure some of the performers in attendance wish they had thought of the idea themselves. The end result is an amusing, obnoxious and edgy video that you can't take your eyes off of. What AAF and Klasfeld have orchestrated here is a raw expression of the insolence and bravado of rock n' roll. Something that has surely been lacking in today's music scene and been replaced as of late by the constant need to flaunt tits and ass. Not that sex hasn't always been an important ingredient in the equation. But where has the attitude been? It is nice to see a return of the audacious and disrespectful attitude of rock n' roll.

I commend Marc Klasfeld for continuing to push the envelope of the music video concept. His resume is like a who's who of the top acts in music today including the Foo Fighters, Sum 41, Eminem, and Jay Z. His work continues to be original, inventive and defies definition. He truly has asserted himself as one of the mediums best. Keep an eye out for Alien Ant Farms "These Days" as it is a gem. It is daring, abrasive and inconsiderate. But isn't that what good rock n' roll is supposed to be all about?
